The Pearl Awards recognize the custom publishing industry’s best publications, in particular excellence in journalism and graphic design, and the execution of integrated marketing strategies built around custom publishing. Custom publications are produced by businesses to provide editorial and marketing-related content to their targeted audiences. The Pearl Awards received by the company were: Gold Best New Publication/Magazine, for The Pohly Company’s creation of “Real Living,” produced for Real Living, Inc., the fifth-largest residential real estate firm in the U.S. The magazine is a 64-page, full-color magazine mailed to clients and prospective clients. Like many custom publications, it showcases the company’s products - in this case, premium properties - while providing practical related information on trends in real estate, home design and style. Silver Best Overall Editorial (for a publication with circulation more than 250,000), for “Continental,” the monthly inflight magazine of Continental Airlines. The Pohly Company redesigned and re-launched “Continental” in 2004. The magazine is placed on every domestic and international Continental flight for a circulation of 330,000. Silver Most Improved Editorial, for “SAM: Student Advantage Magazine,” a quarterly publication for Student Advantage’s 200,000 members. Student Advantage is the nation’s largest discount buying program for college students. Bronze Most Improved Editorial, for “Boston Whaler,” a semi-annual magazine for Boston Whaler’s 55,000 customers and dealers, produced by Pohly for the high-end powerboat manufacturer.
