The Pohly Company (formerly Pohly & Partners)
announces major growth plan
Restructuring, acquisitions, new hires, new offices, name change in the works
BOSTON, Sept. 19, 2005 The Pohly Company, a customer communications company that provides marketing and publishing services to companies across the U.S., is implementing a business expansion plan designed to more than triple the company’s revenue and more than double its staffing over the next three to five years, President Diana Pohly announced today.
The expansion is being driven by the growth of its existing business, and potentially by acquisition of companies with complementary capabilities. The company has hired three senior managers; restructured the company; signed a lease for new, larger office space near Boston’s Financial District; and renamed the company. Furthermore, the company expects to recruit more than 70 additional staff members to support the expansion. “We have a nine-year track record of providing custom publishing and marketing services to leading companies, and we have an experienced, successful senior team. Our business model is proven, having returned profits each of those years, except for the first year of operation as Pohly & Partners. This is the perfect time to implement an aggressive but realistic growth plan,” explained Pohly.
Organizational Restructure The Pohly Company has restructured into five business units: Custom Publishing, Media Sales, Communications Consulting & Market Research, Design Communications, and Fuel Publishing - each an outgrowth of capabilities Pohly provides to its clients today. The first four business units will continue to market to world-class brands and large member groups across a variety of industries. In addition, business unit leaders will begin to market services to the traditional publishing industry, a new market for The Pohly Company. The Fuel Publishing business unit is an outgrowth of Fuel, Pohly’s award-winning newsletter that is distributed in print and online to more than 10,000 marketing professionals. Fuel Publishing will develop additional newsletter products and services targeted at senior communications and publishing professionals. “Our relationship with The Pohly Company has always been about growth,” said Ned Walker, Continental Airlines’ senior vice president of worldwide corporate communications, and a client of The Pohly Company for more than 10 years. “Diana and her team have demonstrated a consistent ability over the years to develop and enhance our most important customer communication programs,” Walker said.
New Hires The Pohly Company has hired three senior managers and expects to hire three more to help lead the company’s expansion. Tom Cunningham has been hired as general manager and vice president of development for the Custom Publishing Group, the largest business unit. He will work directly with clients in the growth and development of their publishing programs, as well as drive new growth. Prior to joining The Pohly Company, Cunningham was partner and director of business development at Connelly Partners Advertising in Boston. Bill Pryor has been named general manager and vice president of development for the Media Sales Group, which he will be responsible for leading and expanding, while helping clients develop and increase their revenue generation. Pryor has more than 25 years of publishing experience, including 13 years with PennWell Corporation in Nashua, N.H., where he served most recently as president of the petroleum division. Bill Beardslee has been named chief marketing officer, and is responsible for services development, positioning, and outbound lead generation programs for The Pohly Company overall and for each of the business units. Prior to joining the company, Beardslee was vice president of marketing for Element K in Rochester, N.Y. Recruiting is occurring at all levels of the company. In addition to 22 percent growth in staffing in the past year, The Pohly Company projects it will increase staffing by about 15 percent in the next six months. Overall, the company expects to more than double its current staff of 50 marketing and publishing professionals, hiring 70 employees within three to five years. The company is recruiting specifically for media/advertising sales professionals, editors, designers and marketing account managers.
New Lease To accommodate its recent and anticipated growth, The Pohly Company has signed a lease for 15,200 square feet of office space on the top floor at 99 Bedford Street, near Boston’s Financial District. Currently the company occupies 8,300 sq. ft. at 27 Melcher Street.
New Name To better reflect the broad nature of its business structure and client relationships, the company has changed its name from Pohly & Partners to The Pohly Company, effective today.
