The Pohly Company assigns articles to freelancers based on specific requests and editorial lineups we’ve created for our clients. To be considered for an assignment for these publications, please follow this procedure:

Here are some general guidelines. Please check the more specific guidelines of the individual publications for further information.

1. No multiple pitches — each query should be one idea and for one magazine only.

2. The query should be no longer than one page, should have a timely hook, and should clearly present the premise and approach of the proposed article.

3. Some editors do not accept e-mail or phone queries — be sure to check the writers’ guidelines for the specific publication you have in mind.

4. No unsolicited manuscripts. We assume no liability for unsolicited manuscripts, photographs, or artwork.

5. To receive a sample issue of a magazine, send a self-addressed stamped envelope with $3.50 postage (no cashier’s checks please) to:
